Voices From the Circle: Native American Radio began as a Sunday night, 30-minute show in Milwaukee on WYMS-FM in 1997 and moved to Sunday mornings, expanding to one hour. It was picked up by American Indian Radio in 1999, and is now part of the Native Voice One family.
This weekly program highlights Native news, music, issues, entertainment and storytelling from reservations and urban communities. Co-hosts Jim DeNomie (Bad River Chippewa), Barbara Jersey (Menominee/Potawatomi) and Shadow (Radio Dog) bring you traditional and contemporary Native music, entertainment, storytelling, poetry, powwow trail information, and a calendar of events with an emphasis on the Western Great Lakes, Canada and North East.
DeNomie is a recipient of the National Federation of Community Broadcasters’ Silver Reel Award for excellence in broadcasting. He is a producer of Harvard University’s Honoring Nations Program profiles, has received three Nammy Awards and was a keynote speaker at the National Congress of American Indians annual and mid-year conference.
